all i know is i'm lost without you
i'm not gonna lie
how i'm gonna strong without you
i need you by my side
if we ever said we'll never be together
in the end and we wave goodbye
don't know what i'll do
i'm lost without you

maybe the new year will officially begin on february for me.

you know how the year begins and how people seem determined to start things afresh? i never got that feeling until two days ago, when i looked around my life and realise that there's a need to make some necessary changes.

so here's my new year's resolutions:
  1. thou shall not complain (so much) anymore
  2. thou shall save more money
  3. thou shall blog more often (for the sake of all those people who're going overseas)
  4. thou shall (try) sleeping more
  5. thou shall learn to be more detached from the gossips of the world

there. i've said it.

went for its concert 3 weeks ago, and this was one of the highlights of the group's performance.

it rekindled my love for acappella music, and my love for great vocal arrangements. this song was just absolutely the nicest (there's another, but i can't find the clip as yet), and it was really very funny.

just shows how much vocals can do, right?

i had some problems with the previous clip (that's why the post's deleted), but that was funny ok? (i don't really care what the rest say, i really thought it was funny!) and no, i still don't think borat's my kind of show, nor am i tolerant of it's humour.

gosh, is this the end of january already? time flies too quickly when you're having fun. too quickly too, especially when it's time to say goodbye.

i hate it when i know that everyone's leaving. it makes me sad. :(

ladies and gentlemen, i've enrolled for my advanced theory test!

yes yes, this is finally accomplished after three years when i first completed basic theory. thank goodness basic theory's for life! can you imagine if i've gotta take basic again?!?!?!

and cheryl, chy and y.y's doing their basic at the same time! so you no need to drive us around anymore (provided that we manage to ace it of course!)

the aim's to pass my driving by the end of this year. i've grown very tired of taking public transport (although we're all very much advised to do so), and carrying a brolly (though with pretty designs of cats and dogs playing in the water) isn't exactly the most pretty fashion accessory.

think of all the times i'd save when i'm travelling to teach!
think of all the late night suppers! (that's for you, nick!)
think of all the squeezing, pushing & shoving that i won't have to endure!
think of all the chasing madness for good food!
think of all the sing-alongs that we can have in the car at the top of our voices! (that's for all my girls!)
think of all the marilyn manson songs that i will not be playing while we're on the roads! (and this, is for you, pi-kia-chew!)

oooh. i better stop dreaming. and start saving.

i've been out of bed real early the last few days, and though i've always deemed myself as a real morning person, getting up can still be a real daunting task.

yet, since the nights will always spent working anyway, waking up to enjoy the unspoken peace in the mornings isn't that bad after all.

the picture will be real complete when the semester starts and readings become absolutely necessary. i can totally envision this already: nice toast & eggs breakfast with my teh si, followed by coffee/tea lattes, sitting on a big armchair, with readings on my lap.

how cozy.

so yes, even though i'm always freezing cold with the never-ever-stopping rain, even though i'd have longed for an extra hour of sleep, even though i wish that there's a tiny bit of sun peeking out somewhere, the peace & serenity that i get makes it all worthwhile.

besides, there's plenty of comfort and warmth in what matters most. :)

listen
to the song that's in your heart
when you're alone in a crossroads

listen
to the joyous laughters of children
to the wisdom of the old and quick-witted

listen
to the simplest words of endearment
to the anguish cries when you weep

listen
to the ticking of the clocks
to the crash and fall of waves

listen
to the undeniable truth
to the mystics of life

listen
when you're alone in a crossroads
to the song that's in your heart

just listen.

what a (strange) morning.

trooped down to have breakfast with my mother at the newest outlet and was very surprised when my uncle decided to join us as well.

i was quite worried that he'd just sit down and not talk, yet strangely, he shocked me by asking questions!

so over dim sum and bee hoon, we chatted over the outlet, the traffic flow, and my opinions about the operations. he asked about the family, and even asked about my teaching (he still remembered!).

i'd say that it's the first time in a very long time that i've sat down to have a good chat with him, and to see this side of him, all jovial and laughing. and it turned out to be a very good breakfast too, one that i enjoyed immensely.

see, there's always a softer side to each individual, no matter how rigid and somber he might be, don't you agree?

i think i'm starting to fall ill in the weirdest possible manners. check out the latest illness that dr chen has just discovered.

illness: parsimonious sleep

detailed description of illness:
1. thinking about nothing in bed, but lack the ability to doze off
2. tossing and turning in bed, with the tendency of getting irritated with the inability to rest
3. eventually sleeping for less than five hours, yet remaining alert throughout the day.

symptoms of illness: feeling lethargic and/or cranky, whiny etc.

cause of illness: plenteous sleep the previous night

***
after the madness last night, i am NOT going to sleep for more than 10 hours anymore.

there's a massive difference with the sister being around, and the sister not being around.

when she is, the tv's blasting loudly (her watching a match), or you'll find her glued to the laptop(watching some korean/japanese/cantonese drama serial). the lights are all turned on, and there's a lot of activity going on.

when she's not, the tvs never on much (except when there's absolutely nothing to do at home), the computer's switched on but volume's minimal. the lights aren't all turned on, and there really isn't much activity going on.

and though the noise bothers me to a certain extent, sometimes the lackof noise makes the whole house seem more dead. so yeah lahhhhhhhh, she's missed. the most.

but, at least it's only the weekdays. weekends are a different story altogether.

so now, i'm using the weekdays to enjoy the vacation, knowing that it's not gonna be long before the semester starts (and we all know what a killer it's gonna be).

which means that i will:

  1. sleep more
  2. watch more drama serials now
  3. play aoe iii and/or rollercoaster tycoon more
  4. learn to drive
  5. learn to cook
  6. spend time with friends, spend time with people leaving the country (ie, spend more money).

blah blah blah.

to reinforce my point, it's back to watching one litre of tears.
yet for me, it might just be one gallon of tears, so says the sister.

i kinda agree with her. i'm only at the beginning episodes and am already feeling the emotional pain of the young girl.

me and the emo dean's list. sighhhhhhhhhhh.

p.s: please, do realise that the point 4 & 5 are just words. whether or not it'll be implemented, that's another thing altogether.

as i was doing my own reading this morning, i was suddenly reminded of a prayer that i've prayed some time ago, asking the Lord to expose my heart and reveal it to me. to show me the things in my heart, soul, mind, spirit and life that shouldn't be there. to convict me that i am missing the mark, and to tear down all arrogance, pride, fear and insecurities. to help me to see to see the truth about myself, my life and my circumstances. i even said that i can take it. i wanted to correct the error of my ways, to replace these lies with true and make changes that last.

suddenly everything else that's been happening the past few days made a whole lot of sense.

He had answered the prayer, and even brought forth comfort.

it's not lashed out like strong winds; rather, they are little whispers that the heart understands. though it does make the situation around now seem quite depressing & disappointing, things do happen for a certain reason.

i realise now, that though "weeping may endure for the night, joy comes in the morning." -psalm 30:5

with God's unconditional love, we'll have the strength to survive, even when life can be so cold.

for He never forsakes, nor leaves us alone.

his salvation brought enormous joy & elation to my heart. i've been praying and hoping for this, and hearing this is great news.

at the same time,

his words brought enormous confusion and hurt in an unexpected way. i'm not entirely sure how to react, and hearing those just saddens me a great deal, to say the very least.

what a weird way to end a real real long day.

meanwhile,
clooney has decided that i've been overly dependent on him and is calling a temporal timeout period with clooney's first breakdown.

the unexpected breakdown is causing quite a nightmare (for me). that's the thing when you become too over dependent, you go bonkers when you can't depend so much anymore.

sigh.

me and the jinx with electrical gadgets. i love these gadgets, they just thrill me to bits.
yet, they just don't seem to have survive lasting and loving relationships with me.

1st post of 2007.

the past few days of 2006 were spent real quickly, but i had my fair share of laughter and joy with those little gatherings that we went for.

big thanks to aunt sheela, sharmaine, and aunt rachel for hosting at such short notice, and maymay, joshua, michelle, kenneth, liangyi, john, sharmaine, kumar, ming tzek, uncle marcus, uncle steven, and even alicia, tia and nicole, for all the fun, laughter, (and heartwarming moments).

and before i continue, i know i owe someone a big gigantic apology here, so here goes:

nick, for not being around to celebrate your birthday with you (especially after i had promised to do something nice), i'm really sorry! i will make it up, and thanks for being so understanding and thoughtful thru' it all. it's a blessing really, your presence. all the ya-kuns, strawberry tarts, assignment-printing(s), hugs, and little encouragements (and tons of love) through the year, cumsahamida!

right. moving on.

you know how people seem to enjoy spending the past few minutes (or hours) reflecting on the year, and thinking about the year ahead? i did that as well.

and you know, given all the turmoils, heartaches and the what-nots, it was still a good year. i hated some, but i'm thankful and grateful about them as well. at least we'd all learn from these, and grow to become better people.

and as i spent the last few minutes of 2006 (with tia on my lap), and looking around the surroundings (and people) beside and all around me, i realised that there was nowhere else i'd rather be actually.

so what if there's a big party outside with the fireworks, party poppers and great music, when there's so much warmth inside where i am?

(but i really thought we would be counting down! can't believe we missed it! all i did was watch my handphone, and whispered quiet wishes when the clock strike 12.)

and though the year's not starting as fantastic as i have always hoped it would be (given all that's happening), i think we're still optimstic, and believing in the best.

so as we begin the year 2007 with new hopes, let's reflect (and rejoice) about what we have.

and just be glad.
